Yeah the readymade harness is the way to go.
I'm a stuborn do it my way type and I did my own wiring harness with a 197? junkyard fusebox and roughly following schematics in chilton's and etc. It was easy enough but by the time you buy wire and ends and casings and etc your into as much as the harness. I spent way too many hors holding a soldering iron to recommend it.
