Yesterday I was driving my truck and when I put it in 3rd and accelerated I got a loud pop out of the carburetor (I'm pretty sure). I got home and checked the timing to find it's a little bit off--the BB is just to the right of the pointer, which I THINK is advanced.
I set the timing a few weeks ago and it was at TDC. I made sure the engine was warmed up and I had disconnected the line from the vacuum advance and plugged it. I've driven the truck well over a thousand miles without any trouble. The vacuum advance is new, as are the plugs, points, condensor, and dist. cap. I'm pretty sure timing can't change by itself unless the dist. bolt is loose or the gears jump. I haven't checked the bolt yet and the engine is newly manufactured, so I doubt the gears have jumped teeth. If I find that the dist. bolt is tight, does anyone have any ideas about what's happening?
