Welcome Jim, hope you can get the old truck. The 261 is a popular choice for those who want to keep their trucks somewhat correct. That's what I put in my '53. I also have 2 big block cars, a 396 Chevelle and a '67 Beaumont, 454 LS6. I try to keep the two interests separate. Just some food for thought, if you end up with the truck. Leave it as it is for the time being. Enjoy driving it, see how it performs, then decide about swapping engines and other components. Ask questions.
