I had a problem with the check valve in the fuel pump. I think the fuel would drain down after a while. That combined with evaporation and a leak or two resulted in no fuel in the carb. It would reliably start eventualy with enough cranking and pedal work but I found it easier just to dump a little gas down the throat.
