I want to clean up/replace/rebuild the vacuum advance unit on my '40 truck engine. Would someone please walk me through the removal of the vacuum advance unit? Do I need to remove the distributor to remove the vacuum advance unit? What about the adjustment unit mounted under the grease cap and between the vacuum advance diaphragm and the distributor? Can it be removed and cleaned up without distroying the timing? If I have to remove the distributor, how do I do this? How do I keep the timing relatively close to what it is as the motor runs.

Thanks to all.
