I gave up on trying to find my problem,installed after market stewarn warner,, new sender and gauge,, works great and right on the money,,but then if you want to keep the stock one working then as mentioned a lot of tips on the bolt,, make sure you new sender is matched up to your gauge(ohms) or it wont work,,good luck,,Fred
