Lets say it came from a fuel injected motor,I don't know. With the S10 frame the machanical engine fuel pump will not fit with out cutting into the front crossmember. Is a fuel regulator between the tank and carb. the answer?
Do you know what year the frame is? What motor are you running and I assume your truck is a 49?
We've done 3 of these swaps now, 2 with 455 buicks and one with a 454 (in a 52 chev), and I've never seen issues with clearance between the mechanical fuel pump and the frame, especially the crossmember.
What we always do with the in-tank pump is remove it, and put a piece of rubber fuel line on that reaches to the bottom of the tank. This eliminates issues with the stock pump, especially if you don't know what year or engine it's from and need a replacement in the future. Then you can run an in-line electric pump, or a block mounted mechanical pump. I would much rather have an in-line pump than an in-tank pump, for accessibility reasons.
