I am repainting a spot on my hood that I repaired. I am curious as how to make it look the best? Should I completely repaint the side of the hood and clearcoat it or should I just repaint area I repaired and then clear coat the entire half of the hood? What will look the best. Also if I am just recoating clear, do I need to scuff sand the old clearcoat with 400 too? will it still be glossy if I repaint over the original clearcoat with it being scuff sanded? thanks for the help!
If it is a 54 chevy hood, I would repaint the entire hood. The reason being is that if your going to break out the paint gun and spray half the hood why not shoot the whole hood. if you have the area repaired, then scuff sand the whole hood with 400 and shoot it. And then you won't have to worry about matching the repair area with the rest of the hood. Heck it takes just as long to clean the paint gun sparying half a hood as it does the whole hood. And it won't take much longer sanding the whole hood as it does half a hood. And you will spend more time trying to color match a spot on the hood with the rest of the hood then it will just to shoot the whole hood. And you will like the end result better in the long run painting the entire hood.
