Well there you have it. I was going to suggest a clogged air cleaner since tonight I was mowin my yard and the Briggs & Stratton would run then miss, run then miss. When it would miss it would belch black smoke so I knew it was rich. I thought it was the governor, because it would tend to rev down and miss under load. Put a new spark plug in it (other one was pretty black, confirming running rich thing) and didn't help. Since I had my GM Goodwrench Service Plus shirt on, I decided not to let it kick my butt. Pulled the air cleaner off and it was pretty caked up with dirt and debris on the foam element. Scraped it off with my pocket knife and she ran like a scalded dog. Good thing I had my shirt on. Thought about this thread and just had to check. Glad you got it going.
