I think the stand-offs as shown in DADS50 picts would be a good way to go. I have a FRAM with similar spacers so they are probably period correct but hard to come by. I also have 2 flanges from 1 5/8" muffler clamps I can send you if you like. They're almost a perfect fit to a 216 manifold. Butting the filter against the manifold increases the oil temp whereas the stand-offs give some air flow to the canister rear. Just need to be sure the U bolts are long enough.
