Hello all, have been enjoying the posts but have not been able to work on my truck for a while. Finally got enough parts together to fire up my 383 sbc yesterday! Engine was built for a bracket racing car but I was assured in would be a streetable engine. I also purchased an Edelbrock tripower set up with early 2 barrel Rochesters, both guys said they would be around when I started it up. Fast forward 3 years, both guys are no longer in the area and I am trying to make this thing run. Engine cranked and fired right away on the center carb only. Got the timing set, adjusted the float for a slight flooding issue and went to adjust the idle mixture screws. From what I have read you start at 3 turns out and adjust to 2 to 1 1/2 turns. This thing wont even try to idle unless I am out 3 1/2 turns. The cam in this thing is a thumper, I dont think It wants to idle at less that 1000 RPM. Do the idle screws adjust fuel? is it OK to run them out for a high idle? I am currently using the choke cam to set the linkage up so it idles at 1000 RPM. Any input would be great. Thanks Boltbuster
