The point gap/dwell is the most likely thing to deteriorate routinely and normally.
Wear of the cam follower closes the gap and reduces dwell very gradually and the timing gets later and performance suffers in sometimes strange ways-- but that is the FIRST thing to check when performance is noticibly down.
