If the tank is not properly vented and builds a small vacuum, then when the pump shuts off (when truck is off) the vacuum in the tank sucks the pump intake line dry. This would possibly be irratic and not occur on short trips, but only longer ones when vacuum has time to build up. Easy test is to remove the gas cap and stuff a rag and see if problem goes away. Also see if you feel a vacuum when you release the gas cap. Just a thought. I hope it's an easy fix.  | | |
