i asked this question in the lounge and got no response, so i thought that i would give it a go here.....
I am putting together my wish list for this late winter/ early spring projects. i have decided to keep my '55 with the solid axle, with an upgrade on the brakes. Also i am going to 'warm over' the 235 that it has in it (once the brakes and steering are done - so more like next year).
my question is this - i need to make it easier to steer because of a bad neck/back. are there other options besides adding on power steering?
it seems to me that i remember hearing that there are some other options to help the steering on these straight axles other than power steering. someone once told me about a different setup that changes the mechanics and runs a rod across somehow to increase your leverage with manual steering. is this like what was used in cars of the same era? is this something that is/can be done? or is power steering my only option?
i am running radials, with good pressure. and also i still have the original steering wheel. i would like to keep the steering original, but as time marches on that is becoming less of an option.
