Just throwin' this out: instead of prying on the threads, how about if you put on a few nuts, then size your pipe to fit over the nut flats. Now you'll be prying against the nuts and not the threads. I'd think the nuts would protect the thread form.
You could always get some
bolts for mismatched holes. (Scroll to bottom to view.)
