The ball collar has been removed. The front u-joint is connected to this shaft by a splined slip yoke. It should by all reason slide right off. The shaft housing is one piece from the bearing support at the rear of the shaft all the way to the u-joint at the rear end of the transmission. There is no apparent way of removing this from the back end of the shaft to see what is inside. I remain perplexed
