Actually my memory is now providing more details! I did notice at the time that my friend's truck had quite a voltage drop on the supply to the blinker. In the end though the wrong set of filaments were connected to the rear blinkers. Once the brighter heavier filaments were connected to the blinkers, the problem with them not blinking with the motor stopped, went away.
