Quite often there is a hole in the barbed button 'blade' that accepts a small diameter drill bit or the like. This allows the buttons to be re-inserted without damaging the pushbutton mechanism. Simply insert the bit (stop) and push the button on hard.
Often there is a way to keep the blade fixed when prying the button off as well but it can be more difficult to find or access.
