I believe the return (to motor) comes out of the middle opening in your filter There should be a plug in the side of the motor for this. One of the other 2 holes is for the input from the pump where your oil pressure gauge is connected. There has to be a "T" installed to accommodate both lines (one to the filter & one to the gauge). The other opening on your filter is for a threaded plug so you can drain & clean the filter when you change oil.
Take a good look at this & you will see how the oil flows into the filter canister, through the filter element, into the center tube and out the filter canister back into the motor.
