There is always some confusion when you say short shaft pump.
It is true the pumps used up to 1954 on pass, and 55 first on trucks, have a short shaft, but are more commonly called a high mount pump.
1955-62 pumps came with a very long shaft. These pumps can have the hub pressed on the shaft farther and the shaft cut off. These are what most people call short shaft pumps. The 1955-62 short shaft pump does not require any drilling for installing.
