What a [censored] night...
Been debating weather to go with the neoprene seal of the rope seal as part of my 55 reassembly. My 55 has machined surfaces and accepts the seal. I played with the rope seal at first but frustration got the best of me and I decided to go with the neoprene.
9pm last night...
Had it all assembled (crank, cam and timing cover backing plate, crank gear reinstalled and alligned) loctite applied - gasket sealer etc... carefully torquing - tripple checking everything... well - ALMOST everything...
Reread the neoprene instructions - darn... forgot to apply sealant behind the gasket... wow... how did I miss this?
So I pull the crank gear, pull the cam, pull all the mains.
Just as I'm about to pull the crank, I reread the seal instructions... I READ IT WRONG. The sealant just goes between the cap and block mating surface... %#^$ ... So I put it all back together again.
When I goto re install the crank gear, I put it on backwards... now gear pulling threads showing... its 11pm now and I'm tired...
Remove the cam AGAIN.
Get to crow bars and gently work the crank gear off from both sides. Thank God I lubed the shaft. <tee hee> If came off easily and I reinstalled one last time.
I'll chalk it up to experience gained... the NEXT 235 should be a breeze!
