A couple of days ago I started the truck for the first time. All seemed good. Amp meter showed discharge at idle and charging with a few RPM. Today I started it and when I shut it off there was smoke coming from the generator. It's the original generator that was just rebuilt with 12v field. I quickly disconnected the wires and the Armature (Gen) wire arc'd as it came off. I checked the voltage on the wire and at the Armature post of the regulator (new voltage regulator). Both showed 12v. My understanding is there should be no voltage there unless the generator is turning? About a half hour later I came back and there was no longer voltage on that terminal.

Does this sound like a generator problem, regulator problem or ?
