Bad experience with CPP (Classic Performance Products Inc.)
Last Christmas I took advantage of CPP’s 10% off sale and purchased a rear disk brake kit for my ’65. I let it sit on the shelf in our garage while we finished another project ahead of it. In February I started the project, and as projects sometimes go, it was not a smooth one. First the bearings on both sides were bad and needed to be replace. Once that was behind me I mounted up the brackets that came in the kit from CPP and the calipers wouldn’t fit over the rotors. A little checking and the brackets were too short. I called CPP waited on the phone ½ hour and they confirmed the brackets were ½” too small - they must have mislabeled the parts. The replacement brackets arrived and everything bolted up fine. But then I couldn’t get the calipers to bleed. Remover the MC twice and bench bled it, tripled checked the proportioning valve and still no matter what I couldn’t get fluid to the back. Finally after all family members and friends wouldn’t pump any more; I took it up to the local Sears shop to be power bled. They worked on it for a day and said no good, it must be a leak in the lines somewhere. So I replaced ALL the lines. Still nothing. Then finally I discovered the seals at the piston on the caliper were leaking. I called CPP and they said they would replace them. On 3/29 they issued an RMA for the defective calipers (both sides leaked). Yesterday I come home to a next day air package from them. After a month and a half they have finally got around to them and sent them back. Why they choose next day air is beyond me. But when I opened the package and looked at the packing slip they charged me $212 for the freight. I called and complained and they said that the parts have to be discovered to be defective in 10 days other wise I’m responsible for the freight. I said I never authorized next day air shipping and besides it doesn’t make sense to get charged freight on replacement of a defective item plus a $40 fee to inspect them. Needless to say I’m not happy. I’ll be contacting my credit card company to dispute the charges. It doesn’t seem right that they still have my cc information from when I purchased them and later add charges.
