Sometimes it's not an undersize pilot bushing- - -it just gets distorted as it's driven into the end of the crankshaft. I like to hang the bushing on a piece of wire into a container of dry ice and alcohol so it shrinks enough to be a slip fit or just needs a light tap to get it into the crank. Once it warms up, the hole in the middle expands back to the right size and it's tight in the crankshaft. Be sure and use gloves- - - -the dry ice is something like 70 degrees below zero! Instant frostbite!
BTW, the same procedure works for valve guides- - - -freeze the guide and the driver together, then tap it into place in the cylinder head. It works even better if you warm the head up with a torch a little before driving the guide into place.
