Stick it to the block or to the pan? From what I've read on the forum, the preferred way is to apply it to the block. I'm finding that if I apply it to the pan with a gasket cement, then go to install it, I keep knocking the front end gasket slightly out of whack. Maybe if everything is cemented to the block and the grooves in the main bearings at either end, I won't have this problem.
