Dad bought a new GMC 2 ton in 63 with the 305, for a log truck. He drove it until 67 and never touched the engine, other than regular tune-ups; they were very tough. The only problem was that a 292 in a similar Chevy would out pull it with a load. In 67 he bought a new Chevy with a 327, the motor lasted about 50,000 miles before needing rebuilt. After the 2nd rebuild he replaced it with a 350 which had about the same life span.
