| | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 295 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 295 | I agree with hot soapy water and a brush BUT I would use a soft brush like a paint brush on the windings. Scotchbrite works wonders on steel or aluminum.
Rinse several times with hot water then rinse very well with isopropyl alcoho. Put in warm place to dry. Meggar the armature from commutator to shaft and meggar field windings from one connection to yoke. If you cant find megger use a VOM.
Ground resistance should be at absolute minimum 250 Kohm. If you have a motor shop handy have them put the armature on a growler and do megger for you.
