I have a '61 Biscayne 235 mounted in my '53 pickup. The distributor number is the same for both the '61 car block and the old '55 truck block. The new distributor I ordered has a different number, but all matches up. The new one didn't come with the vacuum advance. My '61 distributor vacuum advance is angled at 45 degrees. The old one that came out of the '55 distributor is a straight mount. Both will line up and work on the '61 block. I fabricated the vacuum line to run parallel to the block and the advance that came out of the '55 would allow for a connection to the vacuum line straight on. If I use the advance from the '61 distributor, I'll need to re-do the vacuum line I just made in order to make the screw-in connection. So my question is, is there any reason I can't use the straight-on advance as opposed to the 45 degree advance? Are they interchangable?
