The coil will not care either. It is basically a transformer.

Someone somewhere on this site said that in the 40's or thereabouts that there were "alternators" used to occasionally switch polarity to ignition.

If I recall correctly the biggest problem was higher wear on the points but the capacitor is supposed to take care of this.

Navy small vessels did not use grounded wiring.
