My axle is embossed with Timken #3838-J-15. I assume that means it's a Timken and there are several others in a local salvage yard just like mine.
3B-Yes same wheels front and rear.
super 55- Thanks for the link. I have that same shop manual. It's just that the numbers aren't the same.
ps. I have read somewhere that chevy did use Timken axles in some models. If mine isn't original there are others around that have been changed too.
