I just found your quetion. I am not sure what your trying to do. If you send a photo I might have some suggestions. There are some items called dowel centers that fit into holes and have a point so you can mark a piece by tapping on the wood to locat the centers. I have a 46 and I don't have any wood near hinges. I am a wood worker more than a old truck expert so if you have wood questions I might be able to help.
