Don't know if this will help, but I found what appeared to be engine oil in the coolant recovery tank on one of our ranch trucks. Turned out a bottle of Barr's Leak had been added to cure a pinhole leak in the radiator and it wound up in the recovery tank. It looked and smelled like cruddy engine oil.
A radiator pressure test might help shed some light on the situation.
