Thanks. I actually have what I think is a factory bored 228 to 248 Its stamped on the block that way. tranny rebuilt .
If the block is stamped 228xxxxx with 248 stamped separately it is most likely a dealer replacement 248 with the original number stamped on it to match the title. The casting number will provide more info.
