My experience in this market is that you make your best offer and let it simmer. Good chance the seller will realize that his firm price was an unrealistic dream and your offer was fair and reasonable (after a week or two of no better offers). You just never know. I just picked up a '50 for 40% under original asking price because the market is just that bad around here right now.
