Does anyone have a link to an on-line catalog or does anyone have a brand of gasket/filter and a part number and or a cross reference (for Durex filters)?
Might be good to start with the original GM parts numbers. All were Group 3.890.
> 986128 - 1940-'49 Durex filter (MPC)
> 5451937 - Element '40-'49 (MPC)
> 1337676 - 1940-'49 Durex gasket
(Buick Farm) slow to load
> 5451936 - Gasket '40-'49 Durex ('54 MPC)
> 986399 - 1950 Durex filter - modified to #986640 in 1953 (VCCA)
> 986640 - Box of 12 '50-'54+ Durex filters ('54 MPC)
> 5452784 - Element '50-54+
> 5452822 - Gasket '50-'54+ Durex ('54 MPC)
Can someone with 1940's and early '50's parts catalogues supply any missing parts numbers?

Can't guarentee, but I believe that this info is mostly correct ...
The 1940-1949 Durex filter had a wingnut and screw through the glass filter bowl. The glass bowl of the 1950+ Durex filter was secured by a wire bale. I believe that the bowl on the 1953+ filter was a little shallower that the 1950-1952 filter because the deeper bowl did not fit on a '53 Powerglide car. GM changed to AC filters in 1956.
The bowl and gasket for the '40-'49 Durex filter, with the wing nut screw through the bowl, is larger diameter than the '50-54+filter. '50-'54 gasket is 2-7/64" diam.
I cut the gasket for my Durex 2-1/8" - it is a snug fit.
