The original one was rolled over on the top edge. It was obvously replaced by a '54-'55 part at some point along the line.

The 54-55 version was also several inches taller than the correct 50 front panel and its attachment to the sides is not the same. If in fact you have the 54-55 front panel, there may be other changes to your bed that need to be corrected to use the new front panel.
