I changed mine to hei because i learned how to wrench on my 80s chevy's so it's what i know. But, as far as cost, I paid $50 for my brand new setup two years ago and I have had no trouble so if you want to run it, shop around a bit. I never touched the points in my truck and never had any trouble while running them though
