A little noise in the lower gears is normal in those but if it is excessive you have a bad brg. I usually find it,s the front drive brg. It can be inspected & replaced without tearing down the trans. Pull the front retainer, spray a little brakecleener on it & with a strong light inspect the inner & outer races & the balls for any pits or scoreing. They say money can't buy happiness.
