If it's a 7/16" thread, which most 6-lug 1/2 ton hubs have, try 65 ft./lb. 100 is likely to stretch or break a lug bolt.

Agreed 100%. The '55 manual shows a spec of 45-65 ft/lb for the 7/16s. Since the '51 is very simlar (in facr, the stud part number is the same), that spec should be fine.
