I checked the Chevy Shop Manual and it really doesn't say much at all about the manifold heat control valve. The GMC Maintenance Manual goes into a lot of detail on replacing it and discusses new bushings and reaming them to proper size. I can wiggle the shaft on my GMC so there is definitely some play, but I am not noticing any exhaust leak from it and I think that is the key.
