Thanks everyone, great information. Still some questions though. In the run-up to the engine rebuild, my engine guy was checking into parts and discovered that the 248 was only made into 55(correct?). We assumed that the engine could have been a late year build that was put in a 56. The truck has been licened as a 56 since 74, the title is in safe deposit box and I will check on it monday. Also, looking at the codes longbox55 supplied, some things don't match. I have a 248 with a 4 speed and a 11 inch clutch(not 10 as listed). I don't know where the truck was first licened, I can only go back to 74 when a buddy of mine bought it in Kearney Ne. But with everything I've seen here I'm starting to believe that I've got a 55, kind of a shocker after all these years.
