when we panel prep at the shop, the only time we use red scotchbright is right before we paint, it is the second to the last abrasive we use the fine , red , pads are equal to about 320 grit
the gray pads (ultra) are are the last and they are equal to about 400
the only time we use that on existing surfaces are on a fairly fresh paint.
