folks should remember the general way of things in the era these engines were designed, dust control on dirt roads was achieved by spraying petro products on them [some places it was used motor oil!!], oil was sent back from whence it came .... for machinery, being oily outside as well as inside was considered a good preservation technique, who would worry about the many places the oil from inside might get out? every stovebolt marks it's territory regardless of how fussy we've gotten to be about spots on our floors and driveways ohwell
