It's probably seized. There are four screws on the inside that remove the mechanism from the lift gate. The handle itself has a nut on the back of it on the inside on the lift gate that needs to be removed as well, then it should slide out from the mechanism. My handle is seized solid in the latch mechanism currently, but i've been soaking it periodically in hopes on getting it out and re-keyed here soon.
