I run diesel engine oil which contains the ZDDP. However, it seems that the Zinc is far more critical when breaking in new cam/lifters in our old engines with flat tappet bases. After the engine cam/lifters are broken in, it seems that the continued use of oils with ZDDP (or, the use of a ZDDP additive) is not so critical (but it does not hurt).
