When I was a lot younger I worked at a high volume gas station where we sold and poured a lot of motor oil. Being low on funds, we'd bring the empty cans in the back room and set them upside down in a bucket to reclaim what few drops remained. We could get a quart or two on a good weekend.
Now, this was back in the day of the metal top cans that needed a spout plunged through the top for pouring purposes.
What we discovered was that in addition to our "found" oil, there was a considerable amount of metal shavings from the spouting process.
It makes you wonder how much of those shavings went into the car engines with the initial pourings, doesn't it?
