To find TDC watch the #6 hole valves as you turn the engine (by hand, using the fan- belt, plugs out). When #6 intake rocker pushes down, start slowing down and paying close attention. When it starts coming back up, and the #6 Exhaust rocker just starts pushing down, #6 is in valve over-lap. Since #6 is the sympathetic cylinder to #1, #1 is about to fire. Go very slow, and watch for the TDC mark on the flywheel.
(Firing order, 1-5-3-6-2-4: When #1 is about to fire, #6 is in overlap; When #5 is about to fire, #2 is about to fire; and when #3 is about to fire, #4 is in overlap)
Once you find the bb and put some White Out on it. Then look for the triangle and put a ^ mark on it. I also marked the needle with a blue grease pen so I wasn't straining to see both.
Its easy to cruise past it if you're using a hand crank or wrench on the crank pulley. It takes forever if you use the fan. We used the hand crank while watching the valves and as we got close, we'd switch to the fan.
