GMONIZ, thanks for the links. The picture of the blue truck is a good one but unfortunately does not show up close of how the support crossmember is attached.

Dads50, thanks for the link to that album. Jim did a super job of restoring his green truck and several of the pics during disassembly showed the support bar for the spare tire carrier. I saved them all to my computer and will use them for reference. I think it should be possible for me to use the '51 carrier on my '50 without too much adaptation.

Thanks everyone for your help in solving my problem. Now I've got something to work with next weekend.
