Advance-Design (hyphenated) was the most commonly used style, even in 1947, in this introductory document. Nonetheless, as posted by Brad, at times the GM illustrators/editors left out the hyphen.

I have never see New Design hyphenated in a GMC document.

Here it is missing in a 1954 brochure (that used the hyphen in other locations).
