Another approach is a 377. That's a 400 small block bored .030", with a 350 crankshaft. It's got better RPM capability than the long stroke 383, and with 6" connecting rods installed, it gets pretty close to the ideal 2:1 rod:stroke ratio that maximizes the thrust on the piston in the upper half of the piston travel. I built several dirt track engines on that setup and won a lot of races with them.
